As we welcome the last New Moon of the year, a New Moon in Capricorn, I want to share a personal story to illustrate the energy of this sign. First.. Capricorn.
The Sea-Goat, a mythical creature. Able to swim the deepest depths and traverse the highest mountains. Unstoppable. Superpowers driven not by magic or a swoop of the Divine hand. Any accolades here are hard won, by sheer determination, will-power, and grit. This sign succeeds by burning the midnight oil, by rising before the Sun, and by relentlessly pursuing goals without any unrealistic expectations of immediate gratification. Pure. Hard. Work. Effort applied over time. That is the magic that Capricorn possesses. Autonomy born from a refusal to give up. Self-confidence created by surviving seasons symbolized by drought. It’s hard, and its territory can be lonely. When accepted, its challenges cultivate wisdom and integrity.
Getting the idea?
Ok… now to make it personal.
The Sun was in Sagittarius (not long ago), and Mercury was retrograding here as well. My Moon happens to occupy this sign. It’s my happy place. I was feeling so alive, so myself, soooo good! (not to mention Venus was sextile my Moon for a minute…. Wow, I was feeling on top of the world!).
As I looked ahead to my travel plans I thought… “Gee I wish the Sun would still be in Sagittarius while I travel.” You see… I felt so much like myself. And even though I love my family deeply… there’s times I very subtly sensor myself in order to be accepted by them. I’ve grown tired of doing that. It’s an old habit. I thought… If the Sun were still in Sagittarius, maybe I’d have an easier time being the free-spirited me I want to be regardless of who I’m with.
A respected friend recently commented, “you spend so much energy focusing on how other people perceive you. You’re in mid-life now.. It’s time to LET THAT SHIT GO.
Here’s the point I’m getting to… and it applies to all of us. You see, Sagittarius inspires us to go explore, and experience the world, so that we can find our TRUTH. Capricorn requires us to face the challenge of living that truth, by aligning our actions with our goals, rather than our feelings.
The Universe just gave us all the gift of remembering (Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius) our Truth. Now the Sun has moved into Capricorn, and Mercury, still in Sagittarius, is exiting its shadow (Jan. 4). It's time to move ahead by practically living out the Truth inside of us in our everyday reality.
Can you think of a scenario in which this applies to you? What is an inner truth you’ve recently been reminded of? How are you wanting to do things differently so as to apply that Truth in your daily life moving forward?
Juiced up on Sagittarian adrenaline, we have momentum to climb the Capricornian mountain. Midway through, however, we’ll need to rely on our own determination. That’s where we learn what we’re made of. That’s when we grow!
Happy New Moon in Capricorn.
